This shawl is strictly speaking a poncho; however, I think of it as a stay-in-place shawl.
<b>Pattern</b>: Spectacular Sunburst Shawl by Mary Gildersleeve
<b>Yarn</b>: <a href="http://wollesyarncreations.etsy.com">Wolles Yarn Creations</a>: one 100 gr skein in colorway Maroons (480 yards)
<b>Needles</b>: US 3 (3.25 mm)
<b>Modifications</b>: Added a few repeats of lines 59 + 60 (last two rows) to use up all the yarn

In the past, we were able to send items to Tibet, Mongolia, Canada, Afghanistan, etc. Here are some hats I finished recently. <br />Wool-Aid uses only wool (at least 80%) for the extra warmth. All of the hats are made from various stash yarns double or triple stranded to create a dense, warm fabric. This is how my Chadwick looks:<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/25873541@N02/5301277858/" title="007 Chadwick shawl by elisafeld, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5082/5301277858_ab79070b2e.jpg" width="500" height="335" alt="007 Chadwick shawl" /></a><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/25873541@N02/5297706183/" title="012 Chadwick shawl by elisafeld, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5004/5297706183_b2c1dd32ed_m.jpg" width="240" height="137" alt="012 Chadwick shawl" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/25873541@N02/5298305906/" title="017 Chadwick shawl by elisafeld, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5090/5298305906_6ce4a6722b_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="017 Chadwick shawl" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/25873541@N02/5298305222/" title="016 Chadwick shawl by elisafeld, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5241/5298305222_8af3b275eb_m.jpg" width="240" height="180" alt="016 Chadwick shawl" /></a><br /><br />The shawl consists of a clever design that juxtaposes two colors. Mine are BLUE HONEY and MELON:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/25873541@N02/5298328972/" title="042 MELON + BLUE HONEY by elisafeld, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5125/5298328972_742267afd5_m.jpg" width="180" height="240" alt="042 MELON + BLUE HONEY" /></a><br /><br />BLUE HONEY is a color changing cotton yarn that gradually changes from blue to topaz to cigar. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/25873541@N02/5297709915/" title="019 BLUE HONEY swatch by elisafeld, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5165/5297709915_c3ee4765d2_m.jpg" width="180" height="240" alt="019 BLUE HONEY swatch" /></a><br />MELON is, well, melon. It is a single color cotton yarn that provides the contrast to BLUE HONEY. <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/25873541@N02/5297732897/" title="042 b MELON by elisafeld, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5163/5297732897_f684445720_m.jpg" width="240" height="146" alt="042 b MELON" /></a><br /><br />I shortened section II of the pattern to 11 inches (rather than 12) and was able to complete the shawl with one 50 gr skein of BLUE HONEY and MELON each. The yarn is available in the <a href="http://wollesyarncreations.etsy.com">shop</a>.Elisabethhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11038592424005437837noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3069442810912048552.post-16962946599439227232011-01-07T12:13:00.000-08:002011-01-07T12:22:18.862-08:00More ColorsHere is a quick updates on colors:<br /><br />SUNSET<br />Gotta put some sun and color in this cold and dreary time of year... I just love anything blue and green. This combo reminds me of Caribbean waters, which I am truly missing.<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/25873541@N02/5333283037/" title="008 SUMMER WAVES I + II by elisafeld, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5164/5333283037_984a407571_m.jpg" width="196" height="240" alt="008 SUMMER WAVES I + II" /></a><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/25873541@N02/5333898572/" title="007 SUMMER WAVES swatch by elisafeld, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5210/5333898572_1d57cd57a3_m.jpg" width="197" height="240" alt="007 SUMMER WAVES swatch" /></a><br /><br />All yarns are 100% cotton and very soft. One 100 gr skein has 480 yards, which is usually enough for a shawlette or scarf. We stopped at the Welcome Center and were greeted by this sign:<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/25873541@N02/5209399246/" title="002 PA sign by elisafeld, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5007/5209399246_91c56aa3ab.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="002 PA sign" /></a><br /><br />Cute, isn't it? I liked it. <br />While driving and smiling (that is, I knitted and hubby drove), I worked on this vest for Wool-Aid:<br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/25873541@N02/5209398876/" title="043 Keep me Warm vest by elisafeld, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5207/5209398876_3e292e5dca.jpg" width="352" height="500" alt="043 Keep me Warm vest" /></a><br /><br />This vest is for Wool-Aid's current Tibet campaign. More info about the campaign and all the wonderful Wool-Aid knitters is available on the website: <a href="http://wool-aid.org">wool-aid.org</a>. Wool-Aid also has a wonderful group on Ravelry - check us out and join us!<br /><br />The need in Tibet after the earthquake in April 2010 is overwhelming. Many of the children have summer clothes at best with the very cold winter approaching fast. I am very proud to be able to contribute to this cause even if it is only one vest at a time.<br /><br />For this vest I used Brown Sheep's Worsted Superwash Wool doubled up with Knitpick's Palette wool (three skeins of each). On US #10 needles it was a quick knit. The vest almost fits me, so it will be perfect for a Tibetan teenager. :)Elisabethhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11038592424005437837noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3069442810912048552.post-77552958167049503902010-10-15T11:34:00.001-07:002010-10-15T11:43:25.509-07:00What does Gerti see?Do you see what Gerti sees?<br /><br /><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/25873541@N02/5081596745/" title="049 Gerti by elisafeld, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4026/5081596745_02c4dfecb3_m.jpg" width="240" height="236" alt="049 Gerti" /></a><br /><br />She sees new colors in the shop!!!
